Murasoli Maran to head DMK parliamentary party

Murasoli Maran will head the Dravida Munnetra Kazgham parliamentary party and T R Balu will be the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha.

These decisions were taken today at a meeting of the DMK parliamentary party held under the chairmanship of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. The DMK has 12 members in the Lok Sabha and six in the Rajya Sabha.

C Kuppuswamy has been chosen the party's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, while C Vidudalai Virumbi will its leader in the Rajya Sabha.

V P Duraiswamy will be the party's deputy leader in the upper house and C P Thirunavukarasu the chief whip.

The party also passed a resolution thanking the people for voting the National Democratic Alliance to power and congratulating Prime Minister A B Vajpayee.
