Naidu says no to slice of government

The Telugu Desam Party will not join the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government but will extend issue-based support to the National Democratic Alliance.

A unanimous decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party, its spokesman Uma Reddy Venkateshwarlu said.

Asked whether the party's stand was final, he said in politics the situation kept changing. As for now, the stand taken during Vajpayee's previous tenure would continue.

TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will attend Vajpayee's swearing-in ceremony on October 13 and a meeting of the party MPs in the evening to discuss the issues to be taken up in Parliament.

He said the meeting did not discuss whether the post of the Lok Sabha speaker should be allotted to the party nominee.
