Bihar poll ends in peace

Polling and repolling in 618 stations under 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of Bihar ended peacefully Tuesday. Around 55 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise.

Election officials said that no irregularities were reported. Polling in five booths and repolling in 11 of the sensitive Madhepura constituency, thus, went by without incident.

Polling was held in 439 booths under two assembly segments of Kadwa and Manihari in Katihar parliamentary constituency, where 10,000-odd voters were ferried to stations on boats. Polling here had been deferred due to floods.

Repolling was completed in 13 booths in Araria (SC), 20 in Madhubani, 28 in Banka, 16 in Jhanjharpur, 13 in Rosera (SC), 28 in Samastipur, seven in Saharsa, 11 in Madhepura, 15 in Sheohar, 18 in Sitamarhi and one in Kishanganj.

Polling also occurred in three booths in Maharajganj and one booth in Chapra constituency.
