RJD leader killed in Bihar violence

Rashtriya Janata Dal block president Kailash Gupta succumbed to bullet injuries at a local hospital at Chausa block under the Alamnagar assembly segment in Madhepura constituency in Bihar.

A senior police officer said Janata Dal-United supporters attacked Gupta at Chausa, injuring him seriously. JD-U legislator Hemendra Narain Yadav has been detained at a local police station in connection with the incident.

State Chief Electoral Officer A K Basu told UNI that polling continued peacefully in all the 12 constituencies in the state. He said the district magistrate of Sheohar had gone to Amba village to inquire into an alleged firing incident.

Meanwhile, 11 people have been arrested in connection with some incidents under the Sitarmarhi parliamentary constituency.

Reports of bomb blasts were also received from Sheohar. Alleged attempts were also made to prevent the weaker sections from exercising their franchise.

Firing and minor clashes between political groups were also reported even as central paramilitary force personnel were deployed in the Madhepura constituency.

Meanwhile, reports of snatching of ballot papers and clashes between different rival political parties were being received from different constituencies which went to the polls during the day.
