Election process will conclude by October 10

The entire election process barring five parliamentary constituencies in the country will be concluded by October 10 so that the 13th Lok Sabha can meet before October 21 as stipulated under the Constitution.

The new Lok Sabha must meet within six months after it was dissolved by President K R Narayanan.

The shifting of oolling in Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Purnea and Rajmahal (ST) in Bihar and Dhubri in Assam to October 28 would not stand in the way of the constitution of the new Lok Sabha, deputy election commissioner Subas Pani said today.

Polling in the four constituencies in Bihar has been adjourned due to floods. Dhubri will go to polls along with these constituencies as BJP candidate Pannalal Oswal was killed by suspected extremists.

The process for completing elections in these five constituencies should be concluded by November 5. If repoll was necessary, it would be conducted on October 30, Pani said.
