The highest percentage of votes from this constituency was polled by the DMK's Chittibabu, in 1967, but that was before the seat went the AIADMK-Congress way. In 1996, after 25 years, the DMK was once again elected from here, K Parasuraman winning 58 % of the votes, compared to his Congress rival S M Krishnan who managed 24.73 % and lost the election by 236,000 votes.
