In the first general election from here in 1977, it was an Independent who won. But the seat subsequently sent only Congressman Prem K Thungon to the Lok Sabha. In 1996, Thungon was defeated, by former People's Party of Arunachal candidate Tomo Riba who was contesting this time as an Independent.
