E-Mail this report to a friend

Congress President Sonia Gandhi will contest from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, the party formally announced in New Delhi today.

AICC General Secretary Pranab Mukerjee said the party did not want any suspense on this issue. Sonia Gandhi will be filing her nominations shortly, he said, adding that there was no proposal to field her from any other constituency. Sonia Gandhi has already filed her nominations from Bellary.

Replying to questions, Mukherjee said there was nothing unusual about leaders contesting from more than one constituency. He cited the examples of Indira Gandhi, A B Vajpayee and L K Advani.
