Cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar has donated his 2003 Cricket World Cup jersey to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, which will be auctioned to raise funds for the state's 'Save Girl Child' programme.

The blue jersey, with Tendulkar's name and number '10' printed on it, was handed over to Modi on Thursday by Atul Bedade, a former cricket player and close friend of Tendulkar.

"Sachin has given his t-shirt from the 2003 World Cup to be used for charity," Bedade said.

Sources in the Chief Minister's office said that funds raised from the auction of the jersey would be used for the 'Save the Girl Child programme'.

Modi auctions the gifts he receives, and uses the funds for girl child welfare programmes.

Such auctions generated over Rs 1.25 crore last year.
