Dhoni becomes leading run-scorer as India captain

South Africa beat India by 141 runs in the first One-dayer of the three-match series between India and South Africa at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on Thursday.

Here are the statistical highlights…

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with 5278 runs at an average of 58.64 in 152 matches is the leading run-getter as Indian captain, bettering Mohammad Azharuddin's tally of 5239 (ave.39.39) in 174 ODIs.

# Among seven captains with 5,000 runs or more in ODIs, Dhoni is the only one to register an average of 50 or more.

# Mohammed Shami (3/68) recorded his best bowling figures away from home in ODIs.

# Virat Kohli, with 1268 runs at an average of 55.13 in 32 matches, became the leading run-scorer in ODIs in 2013.

# AB de Villiers' match-winning 77 off 47 balls is his 36th fifty in ODIs -- his fifth against India.

# As captain, De Villiers averages 62.81 in ODIs -- his aggregate being 1696 in 38 matches.

# De Villiers became the first South African and the seventh batsman to amass 1000 runs or more in ODIs this year -- with 1051 runs at an average of 50.04 in 25 games.

# De Villiers completed 1,000 runs or more for the second time in a calendar year in ODIs -- the first occasion being 1209 runs at an average of 44.77 in 33 games in 2007.

# South Africa's well-deserved 141-run win was their third in four ODIs vs India at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. The victory was South Africa's second biggest in terms of runs over India in ODIs behind the 157-run win at Durban on November 22, 2006.

# South Africa (358/4) posted their highest total against India in South Africa -- their second highest against India behind the 365 for two at Ahmedabad on February 27, 2010.

# In South Africa's innings, 13 sixes were recorded -- a record against India in an ODI.

# Quinton de Kock set a record for the highest individual innings by a South African player against India in ODIs, surpassing 134 not out off 124 balls by Graeme Smith at EdenGardens on November 25, 2005.

# De Kock was adjudged the Man of the Match -- his first in ODIs.

# Since registering 113 by Hashim Amla and Loots Bosman vs India at Ahmedabad on February 27, 2010, the partnership of 152 between Amla and De Kock was South Africa's first century-stand for the first wicket in 68 ODIs.

# The 152-run stand -- South Africa's highest for any wicket vs India at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. This partnership was South Africa's second highest for any wicket vs India in South Africa in ODIs behind the 173 for the first wicket by de Villiers and Graeme Smith at Centurion on December 3, 2006.

# South Africa have posted nine century partnerships against India in ODIs -- a record by them against any opponent, surpassing the eight by Pakistan.

# JP Duminy (59 not out off 29 balls) recorded his fourth fifty vs India -- his 18th in ODIs. His magnificent strike rate of 203.44 his highest in ODIs. (minimum 50).
