Star actor Amitabh Bachchan’s love for cricket reached new heights.

The Bollywood shahenshah is known to be an ardent cricket follower, but his love for the game got an official touch when the Victorian government hosted him for lunch at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The iconic Indian actor was in Melbourne to inaugurate the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), 2014, which kicked-off on May 1.

Victoria’s Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher said, “I am delighted to host this lunch for Mr Bachchan, who is undoubtedly one of the great Indian actors of our time.

"We are excited to honour Indian cinema at IFFM, which enhances Melbourne’s cultural arts calendar celebrating our international connections and rich multi-cultural heritage.”

Melbourne will be the focus for millions of cricket fans around the world in February and March 2015 when the city hosts the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will be hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand, with the first matches played in Christchurch and Melbourne on February 14, 2015, and the final at the MCG on March 29, 2015.
