IPL auction: No takers for these stars!

Form and reputation hardly mattered as franchises gave many a star player the cold shoulder at the two-day Indian Premier League auction.

Check out some of those snubbed by franchises.

Mahela Jayawardene

The Sri Lanka batsman captained Delhi Daredevils and scored 331 runs in 15 matches in IPL-6.

But there were no takers for him even on Day 2 of the IPL-7 auction.

His base price was a massive Rs 2 crore but Jayawardene remained unsold.

David Hussey

One of the shockers at the auction was David Hussey going unsold.

The 36-year-old, Australian all-rounder represented Kings XI Punjab last season and had 235 runs from 12 matches against his name.

With a base price of Rs 1 crore, the hard-hitting batsman’s future in the T20 tournament is all but over after being snubbed by the franchises.

Marlon Samuels

With his tight bowling, athletic fielding and quick run-making ability, West Indian all-rounder Marlon Samuels is a player fits perfectly in the T20 mould.

Unfortunately, the former Pune Warriors player had a disappointing IPL-6, scoring eight runs and taking one wicket in two matches.

With a base price of Rs 2 crore, his poor record must have prevented the franchisees from investing in him.

White had an average outing in the IPL last season, scoring 209 runs, at an average of 17.41 and a strike rate of 109.42.

Angelo Mathews

Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews had a dismal outing as Pune Warriors captain last season.

The all-rounder’s personal figures were far from inspiring. In 11 matches he scored 172 runs and took just five wickets.

This might have triggered a snub from the franchisees. Despite a base price of Rs 2 crore, he remained unsold.

Luke Ronchi

New Zealand's wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi, who last played in the IPL way back in 2009, started with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, still no franchise showed any interest in him.

Ryan McLaren

All-rounder Ryan McLaren, who was picked at his base price of $50,000 by Kolkata Knight Riders last season, found no takers this time.

The prolific player, who has replaced Jaques Kallis in the South African national team, was up for grabs with a base price of Rs 1 crore. He played just two matches in 2013 (2 runs and 2 wickets) but with South Africa international commitments likely to coincide with the IPL franchise perhaps did not want to risk a buy.

Among other players who were cold shouldered at the auction were New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill (base price Rs 50 lakh) despite being requested back into the auction pool after being unsold on Wednesday.

West Indies batsman Darren Bravo, with a base price of Rs 50 lakh, and Doug Bollinger were also unsold.

Interestingly, these players suffered the same fate at last years’ auction too.
