Kolkata Knight Riders beat a spirited Kings XI Punjab by three wickets in an exhilarating final to win the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League, in Bangalore, on Sunday.

Preity Zinta, co-owner of Kings XI Punjab, which finished the league stage of the tournament as the No 1 team, found it difficult to suppress her nervous energy.

It was probably the most keenly-contested among the seven IPL finals as fortunes fluctuated big time.

Preity Zinta in a pensive mood.

The bubbly Preity had tweeted after the match, praising the players.

She said, “Not the perfect end to this season but I cannot deny, it’s been a fabulous season for Kings XI Punjab and I am very proud of how well the boys did in this IPL.”

A teary-eyed Zinta managed to compose herself, though she looked very disappointed.

The match was not limited to the cricket field alone. Social networking sites made it a Veer-Zaara face-off.

KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan played Veer while Preity was Zaara in the 2004 romantic drama Veer-Zaara.

There was something to celebrate during the final for KXIP.

Kolkata Knight Riders won their second Indian Premier League title, and their Twitter followers came up with tweets at Zinta’s expense.

History was also against Kings XI as no table-topper had won the IPL.

Also, KKR had an advantage as they beat the Kings in Qualifier 1.

Khan’s Knights had won on eight matches on a trot going into the final and were high on confidence.

King Khan’s fans could not get enough of the star. They went berserk when the superstar donned the Kings XI Punjab jersey in tribute to Preity’s losing side.
