Cheteshwar Pujara stole the limelight on Day 3 of the second Test against India at Hyderabad on Monday.

The 25-year-old, resuming on 162, complete a well-deserved double hundred.

It was the second double ton of his fledgling career, having scored an unbeaten 206 against England in the opening Test at Motera last November.

En route to the double century, the young batsman from Saurashtra achieved another landmark. Needing 25 more at the start of the day to reach 1000 Test runs, he became the joint-quickest Indian, along with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, to achieve the feat in terms of number of Test played (11 each).

# For the first time, a total of 500 or more was recorded at the Rajeev Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad.

# Cheteshwar Pujara became the first Indian batsman to post a double hundred in Tests at Hyderabad. He enjoys an impressive record at the venue, averaging 181.50, his runs' tally being 363 in two innings.

# Pujara (204) registered his second double hundred in Tests - his first was an unbeaten 206 against England at Ahmedabad in November 2012. He is the second Indian player after Vinod Kambli to register two double hundreds in the first eleven Tests.

# Pujara has completed 1,000 runs in 18 innings, totaling 1017 at an average of 67.80 - the second fastest in terms of innings by an Indian player, next only to Kambli (14).

# Pujara is the seventh Indian player to post a double hundred against Australia. He joined Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Ravi Shastri, Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Laxman and Tendulkar have two double hundreds each to their credit against Australia.

# Murali Vijay (167 off 361 balls) registered his highest score in Tests, bettering the 139 at Bangalore in October 2010.

# Pujara and Vijay were associated in a partnership of 370 - India's highest second-wicket stand in Tests, bettering the unbroken 344 between Dilip Vengsarkar and Sunil Gavaskar against the West Indies at Kolkata in December 1978.

# The abovementioned stand is India's fourth highest by any pair in Tests -- the highest being 413 for the first wicket between Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy against New Zealand at Chepauk, Chennai, in 1955-56.

Doherty gets four wickets on debut

# Virat Kohli, during his innings of 34, completed 1,000 runs, in 16 Tests, totalling 1032 at an average of 41.28 in 27 innings.

# Xavier Doherty (3/131) registered his best bowling figures in Tests, bettering the 2 for 41 against England at Brisbane in 2010-11.

# Glenn Maxwell registered an economy rate of 4.88 - the second highest by a bowler on debut for Australia in Tests, behind the 4.90 by Jason Krejza in the first innings against India in the 2008-09 Nagpur Test.
