In a Test career spanning 24 years, Sachin Tendulkar has aggregated 15,837 runs, at an average of 53.86, from 198 appearance.

The run machine was paid rich tributes from former great players and commentators.

It all started with this tweet “I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day.”

Indian cricket commentator and journalist Harsha Bhogle tweeted, "sachin, i'll say this again: you were a great habit. i'll live  every moment of these last two games"

Former England captain Michael Vaughan tweeted, "One of the Greatest ever @sachin_rt is retiring... One of my heroes and a absolute joy to play against..."

Suspended Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi also turned to twitter to express himself. He tweeted, "Recieved the news on Sachin's retirement with mixed feelings. A truly remarkable man -none like him exists,he is not only revered, worshiped."

Indian Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor said, "The end of an epoch. The greatest Indian to wield a cricket Bat @sachin_rt announces retirement after Test#200. He has given us all so much."

Bharatiya Janata Party MP and a former Cabinet Minister, Shahnawaz Hussain tweeted, "An amazing career comes to an end. One of the youngest to enter team & oldest to retire. Will miss his explosive batting."
