Ryan ten Doeschate blasted a breezy fifty and claimed two wickets as Otago Volts outclassed Kandurata Maroons by six wickets in the Qualifier 3 match of the Champions League T20, in Mohali, on Wednesday.

Earlier, Otago Volts pacer Ian Butler took three wickets to restrict Kandurata Maroons to 154 for nine in their 20 overs.

Butler took three for 21 in four overs, including the wickets of Upul Tharanga, Chamara Silva and Kaushal Lokuarachchi, as Otago pulled back things in the last few overs.

Kumar Sangakkara also didn't contribute much with the bat before he was caught by Ryan ten Doeschate off James Neesham for 13.

Upul Tharanga rescued Kandurata with a quick half-century as wickets kept falling at the other end.

The left-hander slammed 76 from 56 balls, inclusive of six fours and three sixes, as Kandurata recovered from a poor start to reach 95 for two after 12 overs.

Ryan ten Doeschate triggered a mini collapse in the final few overs, claiming two wickets in successive overs, those of Dilhara Lokuhettige (15) and Lahiru Thirimanne (6).

Kandurata lost five wickets for 20 runs in the space of 21 balls and slipped from a comfortable 134 for four to a modest 154 for nine in their 20 overs.

Ryan ten Doeschate came out all guns blazing and launched a fierce counter-attack to leave the Kandurata bowlers stunned.

Otago faced a stiff task, as they needed 93 from 10 overs for victory, but ten Doeschate changed the script with his superb attacking batting.

He started off by hitting Lokuarachchi for three sixes in a row in the 11th over and then slammed Ajantha Mendis for another maximum in the 15th over. He raced to his half-century from just 26 balls as he smashed Kulasekara for a boundary through the covers.

The Otago all-rounder was dismissed after a splendid innings of 64 from 32 balls, having hit two fours and five sixes, when he was brilliantly caught by Kulsekara at deep mid-wicket.

James Neesham was unbeaten on 32 from 19 balls, as Otago raced to 157 for four in 18 overs and won by six wickets, with two overs to spare.
