Congratulate Virender Sehwag on his ODI double

Last updated on: December 08, 2011 19:43 IST

Virender Sehwag was at his blazing best as he stroked his way to 219 -- the highest individual score in One-Day Internationals -- and became only the second batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to post a double century in the 50-over cricket format, in the fourth ODI against the West Indies, in Indore, on Thursday.

- Scorecard

He shred the West Indies bowling attack to pieces, bringing up his double century from just 140 balls.

The dashing opener was under a lot of flak before this match after a run of poor scores, having registered just one half-century in his last ten innings.

But the 33-year-old Delhi batsman answered his critics in style, with one of the best innings in the limited-overs format as he slammed 219 before he was caught at the long-off boundary off Kieron Pollard. His innings contained as many as 25 fours and seven sixes, for a total of 142 runs in boundaries alone.

This is also the fastest double century in One-dayers.

Tendulkar was the first batsman to get to a double hundred in ODIs, when he smashed 200 not out from 147 balls against South Africa in Gwalior in February last year.

Sehwag also holds the record for the highest score by an Indian in Test cricket. He made 319 against South Africa in Chennai in March 2008, while also scoring 309 against Pakistan in Multan in March 2004 for India's first triple century in Tests.

- Congratulate Sehwag on his achievement.
