Rampaul misses start of Indian innings

July 08, 2011 19:57 IST

The West Indies suffered a severe blow ahead of the third day's play in the final Test against India, as it was learnt that pacer Ravi Rampaul will not be able to bowl for the first few hours, at least.

Rampaul has been vomiting since Thursday and did not come on to bowl since the start of the Indian innings.

The bowler, though, did bat in the West Indies' first innings.

According to the West Indies' media manager, Rampaul went for a medical check-up and even though it was not a case of food poisoning, the Trinidadian fast bowler was feeling too weak.

Rampaul's absence further weakens the West Indies bowling line-up, which is now reduced to a three-man attack.

The West Indies trail 0-1 in the series.

Rampaul is crucial to the West Indies' scheme of things, as he has given the team breakthroughs in all his first spells this summer.

He has so far picked eight wickets from the series, at an average of 27.25.
