Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar [ Images ] was conferred the Order of Australia [ Images ] at a function in Mumbai [ Images ] on Tuesday.
The Rajya Sabha MP is only the second Indian after former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee to get the honour, .
The Order was presented by Simon Crean, minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government and the Arts.
On October 16, Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard [ Images ], during her visit ot India [ Images ], announced that Tendulkar would be conferred membership of the Order, constituted to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or for meritorious service.
