Ponting breaks Indian duck

October 09, 2008 17:24 IST
Australia captain Ricky Ponting finally had something to smile for, in India.

In what could be his final tour to India, Ponting set the record straight finally by posting his first Test century on Indian soil, on day one of the first Test against India in Bangalore on Thursday.

In his previous four visits to the country, the right-hander had managed just one-half century in eight Tests and never looked comfortable against the Indian spinners. His tally read a sorry tale -- in his previous 14 innings on Indian soil he had managed only 172 runs at an average of 12.28.
