·         Pakistan were playing their first match on Indian soil since 04-04-1999.

·         Sourav Ganguly won his only second toss in 13 ODIs against Pakistan. 

·         Inzamam-ul-Haq became most capped player for Pakistan against India in ODIs surpassing Ijaz Ahmed's tally of 53 matches.

·         India (292-6) equalled their highest total against Pakistan in India. India had also made 292 at Chennai on 21-05-1997 during the Independence Cup.

·         India's total is also their highest at Eden Gardens, surpassing the 281 for 8 made against England on 19-01-2002. 

·         The second wicket partnership of 82 runs between Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman is India's highest for this wicket against Pakistan in India, surpassing the 52-run partnership between Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly at Chennai on 21-05-1997. 

·         The sixth wicket partnership of 53 runs between Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif is India's best for this wicket against Pakistan on Indian soil. The pair bettered the 41-run partnership between Ajay Jadeja and Ajit Agarkar at Bangalore on 04-04-1999. 

·         Shoaib Malik (61 off 55 balls) scored his fourth fifty in last five innings. His scores in last five innings read as: 80, 86*, 56, 37 and 61.

·         Malik has scored atleast a fifty four times in his last five innings against India. The sequence: 65,143, 68, 5 and 61.

·         Malik also completed his 2,000 runs when his score reached 32. He was playing his 85th match and 72nd innings. Malik became 17th Pakistani and 119th batsman overall to aggregate 2,000 or more runs in an ODI career.

·         The 113-run stand for the second wicket between Salman Butt and Malik is Pakistan's best against India in India, surpassing the 89 between Rameez Raja and Saeed Anwar at Chennai on 21-05-1997.

·         Butt (108 not out) posted his maiden century in his sixth match. His previous highest was 57 against Sri Lanka at Lahore on 14-10-2004 in the Paktel Cup. 

·         Butt became first Pakistani and only the fourth batsman to post a century on his first appearance against India after New Zealand's Glenn Turner (114 not out at Manchester on 14-06-1975), West Indian Gordon Greenidge (106 not out at Birmingham on 09-06-1979) and England's Marcus Trescothick (121 at Calcutta on 19-01-2002).

·         Incidentally the previous highest score by a Pakistani, playing his first match against India, was 91 by Aamir Sohail at Sharjah on 23-10-1991.

·         At 20 years 37 days Salman Butt became the second youngest batsman to score a century against India. The record is held by fellow teammate Shahid Afridi who was 18 years 202 days old while scoring 109 at Toronto on 19-09-1998.

·         India, despite posting a large total, went on to lose the match. This was their highest total batting first that the opponents managed to overhaul. India's previous highest was 290 for 8, which West Indies had successfully chased at Baroda on 18-11-2002. The accompanying table lists the highest first innings losing totals on Indian soil:

·         The 23 wides in Pakistan's innings are the maximum conceded by India in an ODI on home soil. The previous record was of 21 wides against Bangladesh at Mumbai on 25-05-1998.

·         The match aggregate of 585 (for the loss of 10 wickets) is a record at Eden Gardens, surpassing the previous best of 550 (for the loss of 11 wickets) between West Indies (273-5) and Pakistan (277-6) on 01-11-1989 in Nehru Cup final 

·         Pakistan have won all their three encounters against India at Eden Gardens, Calcutta. 

·         Pakistan have won their last four ODIs against India. 

·         Pakistan have won their last five ODIs played against India in India since 21-05-1997.  India have not won against Pakistan in India in more than eight years. India had last beaten Pakistan at home at Bangalore (by 39 runs) on 09-03-1996 in World Cup quarter-final.

·         Butt won his maiden Man of the Match award.
