India v South Africa at Dhaka

** Greame Smith became the fifth player to captain South Africa in LOIs, after Clive Rice, Kepler Wessels, Hansie Cronje and Shaun Pollock.

** At 22 years 71 days, he becomes the second youngest to lead a side in LOIs after Pakistani Waqar Younis, who was 21 years 354 days, when he led his team against the West Indies at Sharjah on 5-11-1993. However Waqar came in a as a replacement captain temporarily for just one match when regular skipper Wasim Akram was injured. Thus Smith is the youngest captain ever in LOIs to be appointed as a full time skipper.

** Amit Mishra and Jacques Rudolph became the 151st and the 74th players to represent India and South Africa respectively in LOIs.

** Mohammad Kaif became the 34th Indian and the 270th player to appear in 50 or more LOI matches.

** Left arm pace bowler Charl Willoughby was making a come back to the South African side after missing 90 matches since making his LoI debut against Pakistan at Sharjah on 28-3-2000.

** The wicket of Gambhir was Mhakaya Ntini's 100th his career in his 69th match. He becomes the sixth South African and the 65th bowler in LOI history to reach this landmark. Incidentally only Allan Donald (in 64th match in 1996) and Shaun Pollock (in 68th match in 1999) among South Africans have reached this landmark in fewer matches than Ntini.

** The unbeaten 110 run partnership between Mohammad Kaif and Dinesh Mongia was the best for India against South Africa for the 5th wicket obliterating the previous best of 94 runs by Mohammad Azharuddin and Pravin Amre at Calcutta on 24-11-1993.

** The above partnership was by far the best for India for the 5th wicket on Bangladeshi soil. The previous best was the 49 runs put on between Ajay Jadeja and Robin Singh at this very ground on 3-6-2000.

** During his knock of 95 not out, Kaif when on 78, became the 22nd Indian and the 179th batsman to aggregate 1000 runs in LOIs. He now has 1017 runs in 50 matches.

** The 77 runs conceded in 10 overs by Charl Willoughby was the second most by any South African bowler in LOIs. Teammate Ntini had conceded 83 runs in 9.1 overs against Australia at Port Elizabeth on 6-4-2002. For the record, the most runs conceded by a South African bowler against India was 71 runs in 10 overs by Jacques Kallis at Nairobi on 13-10-2000.

** The 153 run defeat was South Africa's second biggest in LOIs after its 182 run defeat against Pakistan at Port Elizabeth just four months ago on 11-12-2002. Incidentally, South Africa's previous biggest loss to India was the 95 run defeat at Nairobi on 13-10-2000.

** The man of the match award was Kaif's third of his career in his 50th game.
