Sehwag is Sri Lanka series leading run-getter

Statistical highlights of Day 3 in the third and final India-Sri Lanka Test in Mumbai, on Friday.

# Sehwag, with 491 runs, at an average of 122.75 in four innings, including two hundreds and one fifty, is the leading run-getter in the present series, a record for India against Sri Lanka in a Test series.

# Dravid's aggregate of 433, at an average of 108.25, is the second best for India in the current series.

# Muttiah Muralitharan's tally of 97 wickets, at an average of 33.34 in 21 Tests, is the highest by any bowler against India, obliterating Imran Khan's tally of 94 wickets, at an average of 24.04 in 23 Tests.

# VVS Laxman (62 off 91 balls) registered his 42nd fifty in Tests, his sixth against Sri Lanka.

# Sehwag narrowly missed becoming the first batsman to post three triple hundreds. He is now the fourth batsman to be dismissed in the 290s, joining New Zealand's Martin Crowe (299 against Sri Lanka at Wellington in 1990-91) and two West Indians -- Vivian Richards (291 against England at The Oval in August 1976) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (291 against England at Bridgetown in February 2009).

# Australa's Don Bradman is the only batsman in the history of Test cricket to remain unbeaten on 299, against South Africa at Adelaide in January 1932.

# Sehwag's knock of 293 off 254 balls is the third highest innings against Sri Lanka, next only to the 313 by Pakistan's Younis Khan at Karachi in 2008-09 299 by New Zealand's Martin Crowe at Wellington in 1990-91.

# Sachin Tendulkar's 53 is his 100th first-class fifty.

# Sachin's 54th Test fifty is his fourth against Sri Lanka.

# Sachin is the first Indian batsman to aggregate 1600 runs against Sri Lanka -- 1605 (ave.57.32) in 22 Tests, including eight hundreds. His tally is the highest in India-Sri Lanka Tests.

# In India's innings, six batsmen recorded fifty or more -- Murali Vijay (87), Sehwag (293), Dravid (74), Tendulkar (53), Laxman (62) and MS Dhoni (100 not out) -- a feat achieved by India for the fifth time in Tests, the earlier instances being vs New Zealand at Kanpur in 1976-77; vs Australia at Kolkata in 1997-98; vs England at the Oval in 2007 and vs Pakistan at Kolkata in 2007-08.

# India, with 642 at Kanpur and 726 for nine wickets declared, for the third time in their Test history, have recorded 600 or more in an innings in successive Tests.

# For the fifth time in a Test innings, six Indian batsmen recorded fifty-plus scores for India.

# Rangana Herath's figures of 53.3-2-240-3 are the worst in terms of runs conceded against India, outstripping the 215 conceded by Australia's Jason Krejza in the 2008-09 Nagpur Test.

# Dhoni's unbeaten 100 off 154 balls is his second hundred against Sri Lanka and the third overall. For the first time in his Test career, he posted two hundreds in a Test series.

# Dhoni's hundred at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, with a strike rate of 64.93, is the slowest amongst his three hundreds.

# Dhoni completed his hundred with a six off Herath and became the ninth Indian batsman to achieve the feat, joining Polly Umrigar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Mohd Azharuddin, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan and Gautam Gambhir. Tendulkar recorded the feat four times.

# India's 726 for nine wickets declared is their highest in Test cricket, eclipsing the 705 for seven wickets declared against Australia at Sydney in 2003-04.

# The aforesaid total is the highest by any team at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, obliterating the 629 for six wickets declared by West Indies against India in 1948-49.

# Sehwag and Dravid put on 237 for the second wicket -- India's best against Sri Lanka, obliterating the 232 between Sadagopan Ramesh and Dravid at Colombo SSC in 1998-99.
