S SreesanthIndia pacer S Sreesanth and his Rajasthan Royals team mate Ankeet Chavan have been banned for life for their alleged role in the spot-fixing scandal that rocked the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League.

"S. Sreesanth is banned for life from playing any representative cricket, or in any way being associated with the activities of the BCCI or its affiliates.

"Ankeet Chavan is banned for life from playing any representative cricket, or in any way being associated with the activities of the BCCI or its affiliates," Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Sanjay Patel said, in a media statement, after the Board's disciplinary committee meeting in New Delhi on Friday.

The disciplinary committee, comprising former president N Srinivasan, Arun Jaitley and Niranjan Shah, discussed the allegations of spot-fixing with the two players earlier in the day before announcing the decision.

BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit chief Ravi Sawani, who probed the spot-fixing scandal and submitted his report, found Sreesanth, Chavan, Ajit Chandila and Amit Singh guilty on multiple counts.

Amit Singh, who played for Rajasthan Royals in 2012, is banned for five years from playing any representative cricket, or in any way being associated with the activities of the BCCI or its affiliates.

Mumbai left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh escaped punishment in the absence of evidence against him, the BCCI's statement added.

Rajasthan Royals pace bowler Siddarth Trivedi was banned for a year after being found guilty for failing to report approaches by bookies.

Interestingly, there was no mention of Chandila in the statement.
