Sachin Tendulkar, who called it a day from all forms of cricket after playing his 200th Test last November, turns 41 today.

As his birthday falls on polling day for the Lok Sabha Elections 2014 for Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra along with 11 other states in India, the legendary batsman has urged Mumbaikars to come out in full numbers and cast their vote.

The Rajya Sabha MP, who returned to Mumbai from the UAE where he is involved with the Mumbai Indians IPL franchise as ‘mentor’, to cast his vote, took to social media to urge voters.

“Every run counts in the game of cricket and every vote counts in an election. Don’t underestimate the power of your vote. In Mumbai to exercise my right. Hope you play your part – Please Cast your vote,” he posted.

Regarded as the greatest batsman in contemporary cricket, retired after playing his last Test in front of his home crowd at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Tendulkar quit the game as the most successful batsman in international cricket with 15,921 runs in 200 Tests. In his ODI career he amassed 18,426 runs in 463 matches.

The Mumbaikar is the only batsman in international cricket to score 100 centuries and was the first to get a double hundred in one-dayers.

He is away from the cricket in the middle, but going by the action in the ongoing IPL in the UAE, fans and players are certainly missing his batting.

As Tendulkar celebrates his birthday, you too can mark the occasion by joining rediff.com wishing him.

May he have more success and many more years coming his way.
