Mumbai Indians' sensational victory over Rajasthan Royals which helped them qualify for the IPL play-offs against all odds left everyone stunned.

It was also the most tweeted match thus far in this seventh season's cash-rich tournament.

According to figures from the Twitter page of the IPL, Mumbai Indians won the battle on Twitter during the group stage with 360,000-related tweets till May 25, followed by two-time winners Chennai Super Kings on 248,000 and Royal Challengers Bangalore with 214,000 tweets.

Mumbai is second on the list when it comes to followers this season, after Chennai Super Kings.

On the all-time followers' list for IPL teams, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Royal challengers Bangalore continue to be the top three teams.

But the interesting story this season is that of the league stage toppers.

Kings XI Punjab not only moved up on the all-time followers' list from No 8 to 6, but also registered the highest growth percentage of followers (34.85 per cent) during the league stage this season.

Chennai Super Kings celebrate a wicket

On the all-time list of IPL teams with the most followers on Twitter, CSK consolidated their No 1 position by adding 90,000 new followers during the league stage, followed by RCB with 80,000 and Mumbai Indians with 70,000.

RCB, who failed to make the play-offs, feature in five of the top 10 most-tweeted matches of the group stage, the most of any team.

RCB skipper Virat Kohli went past CSK and India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni during the group stage to become the most-followed IPL player of all-time.

Currently, he has 3.2 million followers. He is the only IPL player to have more than three million followers.

Kohli and Dhoni are followed by Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina on the list.

Of all the IPL captains, Kohli was the most-mentioned throughout the league stages, with more than 161,000 tweets related to him, followed by Dhoni, with 93,000.
