Perera blasts Hyderabad to victory

Thisara Perera's superb all-round show helped Sunrisers Hyderabad steal a thrilling victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the Champions League T20, in Mohali, on Tuesday.

Perera took two wickets with the ball before he smashed an unbeaten 57 from 32 balls as Sunrisers won by four wickets with three balls to spare.

Hyderabad won the toss and invited Trinidad to bat

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bowl. They brought back all-rounder Thisara Perera in place of Cameron White and Hanuma Vihara replaced Biplab Samantray.

Trinidad, who won their opener against Brisbane Heat, left out Sherwin Ganga for Navin Stewart, a fast-bowling all-rounder, while Sunrisers are playing their first match of the main tournament.

Darren Bravo's quickfire knock of 66 helped Trinidad finish on a competitive 160 for eight in their 20 overs despite an early wicket.

Darren Bravo and Evin Lewis added 49 runs for the second wicket to lift Trinidad.

It was a partnership that provided the Trinidad innings with the stability it needed.

Bravo played a brilliant innings, racing to his half century in quick time. 

The 24-year-old's 44-ball 66 was inclusive of five hits to the fence and four huge sixes.

However, just when things looked to have settled a bit Ishant Sharma had Lewis (22) caught behind.

The batsman's 14-ball knock was inclusive of four hits to the fence.

Jason Mohammed joined Bravo at the crease and the duo added a further 61 runs for the third wicket, taking the Trinidad total past the 100-run mark.

It was at this juncture that Ishant struck again, having Bravo caught by Dhawan at cover.

Sammy picked up two wickets

Darren Sammy then made two quick breakthroughs for Hyderabad.

The former West Indies captain first got past compatriot Mohammed's (19) defence and soon after had Nicolas Pooran (6) caught behind. 

Sammy would have got a third but Karan Sharma put down Navin Stewart (on nought). 

Trinidad lost three wickets in the final over, two to Perera and one to a run out, but still finished on a respectable 160 for eight.

Parthiv hit on the helmet

Sunrisers opener Parthiv Patel was hit on the helmet by pacer Rayad Emrit in the fifth over forcing the physio to come out and attend to him.

After popping in a painkiller, Parthiv continued batting and he edged the next ball for a boundary past the wicketkeeper.

However, the left-hander fell in the next over when he was caught at short thirdman off Sunil Narine for 17.

Dhawan falls for 23

Narine's twin strike lifts Trinidad

The mystery spinner finished with two wickets in his final over, that of Darren Sammy and Ashish Reddy to keep his team in the hunt.

In the closing stages, Trinidad held a slight edge as Sunrisers faced a stiff task of scoring 44 runs from four overs for victory.

Perera and Sammy changed the script as they smashed Emrit for 23 runs in the 17th over.

Karan Sharma finished off things in style as he hit Stewart for a massive six over square leg to take his team to victory.

Perera was the star of the show for Hyderabad with the bat, as he smashed a quickfire 57 from 32 balls, having hit four boundaries and four sixes.
