Sport stars, fans react to  Rohit Sharma's mammoth 209 off 158. Sharma became only the third batsman in ODI history to smash a double ton after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

International Cricket Council was quick to point out the record that Rohit Sharma broke.

The ICC tweeted, “@ImRo45 becomes only the 3rd player to score a double-century in ODIs. He also breaks the record for the most sixes in an innings.”

Team-mate Ravindra Jadeja went on a tweeting rampage. Twitter was his pitch as Rohit Sharma took over the cricket field on Saturday with a storm!

Jadeja tweeted, “One does not simply score Double Century in ODI, unless they're Indians.”

His next came as a tongue in cheek. “Rohit Sharma just got friend requests from Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.”

Not too far away, West Indies captain Darren Sammy was glued to the television set.

He is dreading Rohit Sharma during the upcoming tour against India as he tweeted, “Oh my #carnage India vs Australia...who wants to be a bowler?”

Far away in New Zealand, Ross Taylor has been watched Sharma's knock and looked inspired as he tweeted, “Amazing batting by @ImRo45 awesome to watch. 209.”

The Rohit Sharma Fan Club tweeted, “Rohit is just properly showing how to celebrate pollution-free Diwali. Keep going @ImRo45, 1000 runs for the calendar year 2013 completed.”

Indian entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar Shaw tweeted, “Following this game from New York. What a good score n a great innings from Rohit Sharma.”

The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, gave a political twist saying, “Rohit Sharma is playing well. Is now eligible to Support/Criticize Narendra Modi?”
