Australia swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes that the former skipper Michael Clarke didn't have 'that same personal side' as that of his successor Steve Smith.

The 27-year-old opined that Smith was more approachable than Clarke and that he felt the latter wanted to keep himself as the captain while playing under him.

However, Maxwell praised Clarke's record as captain and described his former captain as the ultimate professional, who was tactically brilliant.

Reflecting on Australia's shambolic tour of India in 2013, where they suffered a whitewash in the four-Test series, Maxwell said that he tries to forget most of the things about the 'disastrous' tour apart from making his debut and taking his first wicket.

The tour was engulfed by the infamous 'homeworkgate' scandal, where Shane Watson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson and Usman Khawaja were suspended for failing to do a team task assigned by then coach Mickey Arthur, who was sacked several months later on Ashes eve in England.

Australia are scheduled to visit India next year for a four-match Test series.
