West Indian batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan has been ruled out of the one-day series against Pakistan after suffering a hairline fracture in his right foot on the fifth day of the final Test on Friday.
"His right foot has been put in a cast after we discovered a small fracture in the instep. He will be returning home on the next available flight," West Indies team media manager Imran Khan told reporters.
"He will miss the five one-dayers and will only bat in this Test if absolutely necessary."
Sarwan, who had batted steadily to reach 35, was struck on his foot from an inside edge when he tried to negotiate a fast yorker from Pakistan paceman Umar Gul in the first session.
Falling to the ground in pain he was taken off the field with the support of his team doctor and physiotherapist.
Dr Mohammad Ali Shah, a noted orthopaedic surgeon who saw Sarwan, said he would need at least four weeks rest.
Sarwan was taken to Shah's orthopaedic hospital for x-rays after he retired hurt.
