Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Sanath Jayasuria has signed a two-year contract worth $ 250,000 to play for South Africa's provincial team Dolphins.

The 39-year-old star all-rounder, who played a stellar role in the inaugural Indian Premier League early this year, has confirmed his contract in an interview with the local Daily News in Durban.

The left-hander, who didn't reveal much about his contract, said he would in Durban at the end of October to play in one-day and Twenty20 matches.

Jayasuriya is still part of Sri Lanka's ODI and Twenty20 sides.

Dolphins' coach Yashin Ebrahim, who was responsible for negotiating the deal told the newspaper, "It's a dream come true for us at Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead.

"He is still one of the best players of the shortened form of the game and will no doubt add value to the Dolphins this season.

"The fact that we have not won a trophy for a few years motivated Sanath to make the trip to Durban. He said he loves challenges and would do his best to bring back the glory days and crowds to the Sahara Stadium. I believe we have spent money in the right direction."
