Aashish Kapoor shines for TN

November 23, 2005 20:23 IST

Gujarat were 110 for four at close of a truncated first day in their Elite 'A' Group Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu in Tirunelveli on Wednesday.

Play was possible only from late afternoon due to intermittent rains.

The Gujarat batsmen succumbed to the guiles of former Indian spinner Aashish Kapoor, who ended the day scalping three batsmen.

Electing to bat, Gujarat openers, Nilesh Modi and Hem Joshipura were bent on seeing the day through but Kapoor, who was brought on in the 25th over struck, dismissing Joshipura, brilliantly caught by Hemang Badani at silly point, for 19.

In the next over, he sent back Modi, leaving Gujarat on 58 for 2. Modi was caught by Badrinath at backward shortleg for 23 (one four).

After Akash Christian was adjudged lbw too medium pacer Jesuraj, Kapoor claimed his third wicket when Kirad Damani holed out to a running catch by Sharath at mid-on.

At close, Mukund Parmar (15) and Bhavik Thakkur (20) were at the crease.
