November 09, 2012 20:21 IST

Vineet Saxena (114) and skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar (119) hit centuries to guide Rajasthan to 269 for 2 against Mumbai on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy Group A match, in Jaipur, on Friday.

Saxena and Kanitkar forged a massive 220-run partnership for the second wicket to put Rajasthan in a commanding position after Mumbai won the toss and asked the hosts to take first strike at KL Saini ground.

Saxena hit as many as 15 fours and a six in his 301-ball unbeaten innings, while Kanitkar took 192 balls for his century, which was laced with 17 boundaries.

At draw of stumps, Robin Bist (14) was giving company to Saxena.

For Mumbai, Kshemal Waingankar and Ankeet Chavan took a wicket each.

Earlier, Rajasthan had a bad start, as they lost Ankit Lamba (9) in the second over, courtesy Waingankar, who had the opener caught by skipper Rohit Sharma.

However, that did not have any affect on the hosts as Saxena and Kanitkar resurrected the innings and lifted Rajasthan to 230 in 75 overs.

The skipper was finally dismissed, trapped in front of wicket by Chavan.

Bist and Saxena then added another 39 runs in the remaining 15 overs of the day.

With some good players still to bat, Rajasthan will be looking to post a big score on Day 2.

Brief Scores:

Rajasthan: 269-2 in 90 overs (V Saxena 114, H Kanitkar 119; A Chavan 1-35).
