Parab, Pawar cruise Baroda to victory

December 07, 2004 15:53 IST

Baroda defeated Hyderabad by five wickets to garner full points from their Elite Group 'B' Ranji Trophy match held at Gymkhana grounds in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Overnight batsmen Hrishikesh Parab and Rajesh Pawar guided Baroda to a smooth victory partnering for the required 279 for five in 33 overs on the final day.

Parab compiled a defiant 93 with 10 broundaries while Rajesh Pawar, who had pulled down the hosts by a hat-trick in second innings, cracked an enterprising 95 off 169 balls with 10 fours hits to the fence to give Baroda the thumping win.

Hyderabad bowlers remained ineffective as the Baroda batsmen dominated the proceedings on the last two days. The hosts, despite fashioning a 77-run first innings lead, failed to prevent Baroda from bouncing back into the game and taking total control.

The home side compiled 170 and bowled Baroda out for 93 in the first innings but could not consolidate their position as they were bundled out for 198 in the second essay.

Chasing the victory target of 276, Baroda were 182 for five on the third day and Parab and Pawar continuing their form and partnership into the final day to notch up 279 and register five wicket run.

Hyderabad had lost its opening match against Tamil Nadu and won the second match against Maharashtra bagging four points.
