Pak team satisfied with Jamshedpur

January 26, 2005 16:48 IST

The two-member venue assessment team from Pakistan expressed satisfaction over the existing facilities at the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur, which is slated to host a one-day international during the forthcoming Indo-Pak series.

The team, comprising Zakir Khan, General Manager (Cricket Operations) of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Sohail Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Lahore, inspected the stadium soon after arriving from Kolkata this morning.

The duo were taken around the stadium by officials of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) including its president Amitabh Choudhury, DIG, and secretary B N Singh.

The visitors spent over three hours at the stadium and held a closed door meeting with the officials of JSCA and Police Superintendent Sanjay Anand Latekar.

Later, talking to newsmen, Zakir said the existing facilities at Keenan including the ground condition and pitch looked good and appreciated the authorities for maintaining the stadium well.

Zakir Khan, however, pointed out a couple of shortcomings at the venue and suggested steps for improvement.

Zakir, also a former cricketer, suggested installation of an air-conditioning system in the dressing room meant for Pakistani cricketers as it would be hot in April, when the match is tentatively scheduled.

Besides, he also wanted better arrangements for ensuring the privacy of the players.

"But altogether, the facilities are apparently good," Zakir said on Wednesday.

Sohail Khan said he did not apprehend any security lapse at the venue in view of the facilities available at the Keenan.

The team is slated to leave for Kolkata this afternoon to hold talks with BCCI officials.

Zakir and Sohail, who arrived in India on Monday on a five-day visit, yesterday inspected the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali -- the venue for the first Test match.
