Pacer Shami ruled out of Australia tour with injury

India suffered a big setback ahead of the forthcoming One-Day International series against Australia as pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the tour with an injury.

The Bengal pacer had recently made a comeback to the Indian team for the five-match ODI and three-match T20 series in Australia after a long absence of nearly nine months because of an injury.

Shami injured his left hamstring and will be out of action for around six weeks. His place in the Indian team will be taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

"The BCCI medical team confirms that Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of India’s tour of Australia due to injury. He sustained a Grade II injury to his left hamstring, which will restrict him from playing active cricket for about 4 to 6 weeks," BCCI said in a media release on Saturday.

Last year, Shami had played through pain in the ICC World Cup, claiming 17 wickets in seven games before India were beaten by Australia in the semi-finals.

He was ruled out of cricket for nearly nine months with injury, which he said was 'very frustrating'.

"Injuries are very irritating for me and any other cricketer. It’s very difficult to mentally come out of an injury. I just hope it never happens to me again in my life."

Having recovered from his injury, Shami played for Bengal in a few domestic matches, claiming three wickets in the two Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day matches.
