Former Queensland First Class player Bruce Oxenford will make his international umpiring debut in the Commonwealth Bank one-day international between India and Sri Lanka at Manuka Oval, becoming the 36th Australian to do so.
Oxenford's appearance in this match will be the first debut by an Australian umpire in a one-day international since Bob Parry in January 2002.
Commenting on his appointment Oxenford said: "I'm really excited for this opportunity to umpire at international level and hope that this is just the start of my international umpiring career.
"It's just a fantastic opportunity; I have received a lot of help since I started umpiring and I owe a lot to these people, especially my family, for their assistance to get where I am today.
"I'm really looking forward to the challenge of umpiring an international match, which can hopefully lead to more opportunities for me in the future."
After finishing his playing career as a leg break bowler which included eight First Class appearances for Queensland, Oxenford took up umpiring in 1998. His First Class umpiring debut was in 2001 in the tour match between Queensland and New Zealand. In 2002-03 the Gold Coast based umpire was appointed to Cricket Australia's umpiring panels and has gone on to umpire 36 First Class and 24 interstate one-day matches.
For the 2007-08 season, Oxenford was nominated by CA to the ICC's International Panel as the third Australian member of this panel behind Steve Davis and Peter Parker. In September 2007 the ICC permitted the third nomination of national boards on the International Panel to be appointed to on-field umpiring duties in ODIs (previously only limited to TV umpire duties). This has allowed Cricket Australia to provide Oxenford the opportunity to begin his international umpiring career.
Bruce has umpired two Twenty20 Internationals, including the match played between Australia and India at the MCG this season.
