Now Modi's guards in the dock after attacking journalists

April 21, 2010 14:23 IST

Maharashtra government will file cases against the security guards of embattled IPL commissioner Lalit Modi for physically assaulting journalists, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Raising the issue, Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse said, "When Lalit Modi arrived in Mumbai yesterday (Tuesday), the media had gone to cover him. But, the security guards attacked the journalists. Attacks on media are becoming a routine affair and despite assurances that such incidents will be made non-bailable, the government is not taking any action."

Khadse also submitted a CD to Speaker Dilip Walse Patil as a proof.

Chief Minister Chavan said he had spoken to the Home Minister R R Patil about the issue. "He told me that the private security guards had assaulted the journalists and cases would be filed against them," Chavan said.
