Speedster Munaf Patel was on Friday, advised to undergo a second MRI scan by the Board of Control for Cricket in India physician Anant Joshi before a decision on his fitness to play in the ODI series against Sri Lanka is taken.

"We examined Munaf Patel today. He did a strenuous workout and did not feel any pain in the ankle. Clinically everything is okay with his ankle," said Joshi.

"Still, to have an objective view on the matter we have advised him to undergo another MRI scan, which can be compared with the previous one taken. The report will be ready by 9:30 or 10 am after which we will give it to BCCI," Joshi said.

The selectors are to choose the Indian squad for the first two ODIs against the visiting Lankans on Saturday.

Patel played a little part on the last tour of South Africa after injuring his landing-leg ankle in the initial stages of the one-day series.

He was passed fit to play the third and final Test at Cape Town, but fitness-wise looked well below his best.

On his return home from South Africa, Joshi advised him a rest of six weeks though he felt there was nothing wrong with his ankle physically and the bowler's problem was psychological rather than physical.

Patel trained with the Indian squad in Baroda ahead of the last ODI against the West Indies on January 31 though he was not part of the team.
