Mumbai schoolboy Pranav Dhanawade etched his name in the annuls of local cricketing history when he scored a staggering unbeaten 652 runs off just 199 balls in an inter-school cricket tournament, organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association, on Monday.

The Smt KC Gandhi School (Kalyan) lad struck 78 fours and 30 sixes en route his massive personal score on Day 1 of the H T Bhandari Cup match against Kalyan’s Arya Gurukul School.

Dhanawade surpassed the record set by Mumbai's Prithvi Shaw to register the best-ever individual score on a single day; he bettered Shaw’s remarkable score of 546, made in 2014.

He helped his team reach 956 runs for the loss of just one wicket at the end of the first day’s play.

At stumps, Dhanawade (652 not out) was at the crease with number three batsman Siddhesh Patil (100 not out).

Aakash Singh (173 runs) was the only batsman dismissed.

The current bunch of young talent from Mumbai also includes the likes of Arman Jaffer and Sarfaraz Khan.

Sarfaraz had scored 439 in 2009, a record that was broken by Jaffer (498) in 2010, only to be surpassed by Shaw four years later.

Batting legend and cricket great Sachin Tendulkar also comes from the same Mumbai stable and his epic partnership of 664 runs with fellow-Mumbaikar Vinod Kambli is still the talk of the town.
