IPL to adjust schedule for elections

March 03, 2009 07:25 IST

The Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament committee said it will reschedule the matches that coincides with the Lok Sabha elections.

The dates for the general elections were announced on Monday and it was observed that the Kolkata Knight Riders' home match against Bangalore Royal Challengers on May 13 falls on the same day the city goes to polls.

IPL tournament director Dheeraj Malhotra said they have no option but to reschedule a few games that clash with the polling dates in the host cities.

"There's no other way out. We have to reschedule the matches that are clashing with the LS polls," said Malhotra.

"Not just in Kolkata, there are few more matches that are clashing with the poll dates. I'm now in the process of sorting them out. We will make an announcement in a day or two," he added.

Eden Gardens will host all seven home matches of the Knight Riders with the first against Deccan Chargers on April 11.

Cricket Association of Bengal president Jagmohan Dalmiya, reacting to the election dates said, "Rescheduling won't be a difficult proposition and I am sure the tournament committee will come out with a solution."
