IPL is the most lucrative tournament for Kiwi stars

April 19, 2010 08:34 IST

Statistics emerging from the Indian Premier League (IPL) reveals that for the New Zealand cricketers, the tournament has been the most lucrative.

A player in the IPL stands to earn about $25,000 for a six, compared to the match payment of $14,650 New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, vice-captain Ross Taylor and wicket-keeper Brendon McCullum earned, while contracted to New Zealand Cricket for the recent Test series against Australia.

Fast bowler Shane Bond gets $75,000 for a wicket, and Vettori's dot balls are netting $2700 each.

While, Vettori laboured for a measly $23 a ball, less than one per cent of what he is earning when he rolls the arm over for the Delhi Daredevils, The New Zealand Herald reports.

The figures also highlights why foreign players confirmed their participation in the tournament despite concerns about their security.

The New Zealand players have contracts ranging from $156,000 to $174,000 with the national board, while with IPL they have contracts ranging from $400,000 to $750,000.
