Brendon McCullum, who has just come off another successful and lucrative Indian Premier League campaign, has revealed that to him Test cricket is sacred and something people have to protect.

The 33-year-old cricket player said that while the IPL is outstanding and a great learning environment, Test cricket is still the pinnacle of the game and that has to have priority, Stuff.co.nz reported.

McCullum added that Test cricket is the toughest challenge as "you will fail more times than you succeed in Test cricket, but when you do taste success, you know that you have earned it."

He noted that when one finishes playing, it's his Test experiences and memories that he'll hold onto the longest.

McCullum, who was thrilled to have the chance to play both, was thankful to the New Zealand board for their holistic view of having Kiwi players mix the two forms of the game.
