Last updated on: April 09, 2012 16:23 IST

Sachin Tendulkar on Monday welcomed teammate Yuvraj Singh on his return to the country and wished him a speedy recovery following his treatment for a rare germ cell cancer in the United States.

"Yuvi- Got well soon ?. Welcome back home my brother after winning a tough battle with cancer," Tendulkar wrote on his Twitter page.

Yuvraj, who underwent three cycles of chemotherapy for a rare germ cell cancer between his lungs, returned home to a rousing welcome from adoring fans.

Received by his mother Shabnam at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, in New Delhi, Yuvraj came on Monday morning after spending some days in London to recuperate from the after-effects of the chemotherapy.

Tendulkar, who is nursing his injured finger, had met the left-handed batsman in London last month. Yuvraj's head, which went bald during the treatment, was covered with a red sports cap.

Yuvraj SinghSporting a red T-shirt teamed with Khaki pants, Yuvraj made his way through hordes of fans and waiting media personnel after coming out from back gate of the airport.

India's 2011 World Cup hero did not speak to the waiting media but his mother thanked everyone for their prayers and wishes.

Flashing a victory sign and a smile, Yuvraj walked through patiently towards a white Audi SUV, which drove him to his home from the airport.

Sehwag, KP to meet Yuvraj this week

Welcoming Yuvraj Singh on his return to the country, Delhi Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag said he will meet his India teammate this week.

Yuvraj, who underwent three cycles of chemotherapy for a rare germ cell cancer between his lungs in the United States, returned home to a rousing welcome from adoring fans this morning.

"I am very happy Yuvraj is back (from the US). We all prayed for him. In the coming 2-3 days I will go and personally meet him," Sehwag said during a promotional event.

"He is presently under rehabilitation and I hope he will return to the field soon," he added.

Sehwag's Daredevils teammate Kevin Pietersen praised Yuvraj for his fighting abilities and said he too will meet him this week.

"I was lucky enough to speak to Yuvraj last night before his return from London. I plan to meet him this week," Pietersen said.

"As a sportsperson our job is to accommodate and follow our fellow cricketers in their difficult times. Yuvraj is a fighter and he will fight through this period also," the English batsman added.

Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene, who will also don the Daredevils' colours in the ongoing Indian Premier League, also wished Yuvraj a speedy recovery.

"I'm very happy that Yuvraj's treatment has gone down well in the US. I came to know about his cancer during the CB series in Australia. Though I did not get hold of Yuvraj, I kept regular updates about him from his manager," Jayawardene said.

"He is good spirits and I wish him all the best. Sooner than later I am hoping to play against him again."
