Munaf fined 50 percent match fee for making offensive gestures

Mumbai Indians pacer Munaf Patel was fined 50 percent of his match fee for making offensive gestures to opposition players in his side's Indian Premier League match against Kings XI Punjab in Mumbai.

In the third over of the KXIP innings, Munaf was seen to be resorting to verbal volleys to Punjab opener Nitin Saini after the batsman hit him for two fours and that needed intervention from the umpires and Mumbai captain Harbhajan Singh.

Munaf Patel"Munaf Patel of the Mumbai Indians has been fined 50 percent of his match fee for the Level 1 offences  -- making offensive gestures (Article 2.1.4) and conduct bringing the game into disrepute (Article 2.1.8) in today's match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai against King's XI Punjab," an IPL release said.

"Mr Patel admitted the offences and accepted the sanction. In accordance with the IPL Code of Conduct and being Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the release said.

Kings XI Punjab won the match by six wickets.
