Delhi Daredevils pacer Shami out of IPL due to injury

Last updated on: April 16, 2015 01:31 IST

India pacer Mohammed Shami's knee injury has turned out to be more serious than Delhi Daredevils made it out to be.

It has ruled him out of the ongoing eighth edition of the Indian Premier League.

Shami, who took 18 wickets in the ICC ODI World Cup, had problems with his dodgy knee and was rested for the match against the United Arab Emirates. Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaced him.

"Shami is out of the tournament. He might have to go for operation. He should not have gone for IPL. He will take at least two months for recovery," a BCCI official said on condition of anonymity.

Delhi Daredevils' veteran fast bowler Zaheer Khan is also struggling with injuries and missed out on the first three matches of IPL 8.

Delhi Daredevils on Wednesday ended their losing streak, beating Kings XI Punjab by five wickets in Pune.

It was their first victory in 12 matches over two seasons.

They lost their last nine matches in the previous edition of the tournament and started the current season with two defeats.
