May 21, 2011 22:14 IST

After being thrashed by 82 runs by Deccan Chargers in their do-or-die IPL match, Kings XI Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist on Saturday said his decision to field first coupled with a sloppy allround performance quashed their hopes of making the play-offs.

"My toss decision was wrong. I got caught up in the run rate, rain forecast and stuff. That combined with the worst fielding performance on the field didn't help on the bad day," Gilchrist said.

"I don't think it was pressure; it just went all wrong. I didn't sense any tension in the group in the build up. We can sit back and pleased about the way we came back. But it was frustrating today," he added.

The Australian, however, said there are many positives to take home and heaped praise on his team for finishing fifth in the tournament.

"There is plenty to take away from this. It was a good fun to be part. Nice feeling in the group and franchise in general.

"Shaun and Valthaty were outstanding. We didn't bat well around them in the heart of the tournament. We batted well at the start and finished well but didn't do well in the middle.

"In bowling, Piyush Chawla made a good comeback, Praveen Kumar did well and always led from the front. There are also many other youngsters in the team about whom you will hear about in the future," he added.

Adam GilchristAsked about his future plans, Gilchrist said, "I don't know about (next year). I have some time to think about it. I am excited to be involved with the franchise in someway but all that have to be sorted out."

Deccan Chargers skipper Cameron White said his openers set the game for him and he couldn't have asked for a better score on board.

"It worked out pretty well. You can't ask more than 198 in Twenty20, Shikhar and Teja played well. We did well today; unfortunately we didn't do so well in some other games," he said.

"The squad is very talented; we have two best spinners in the country. Promising signs of IPL5, It was good to win," he added.

Man of the match Shikhar Dhawan said his innings was due for long and expressed happiness to get it.

"The first run .. I was regretting it. I was hitting the ball well during the tournament and this (innings) was due. The ball was coming nicely and once we started hitting boundaries we knew we can get a big score.

"Ravi played some awesome shots. The team has done well in the last three games and it's nice to end on a winning note.

"Now I will be training to get more fit for the domestic season. I have just played one game for India and If I get another chance, I would like to play for long," he added.
