November 24, 2005 14:27 IST

Inzamam-ul-Haq on Thursday scored his 24th Test hundred on the final day of the second Test against England to set a new record for most Test centuries by a Pakistani batsman.

He had equalled former captain Javed Miandad's record of 23 Test hundreds in the first innings of the Test when he scored 109 runs. He has now scored 7,955 runs in 104 Tests and has also got 10,971 runs in 347 one-day internationals.

Inzamam's scores of 109 and 100 not out in the Test is also only the second instance of a Pakistani scoring two centuries in the same match against England and the fifth time overall by a Pakistani batsman.

Hanif Mohammad in 1961-62 scored 111 and 104 against England at Dhaka.

The others who have scored two hundreds in a match for Pakistan are:

Javed Miandad 104 and 103 not out against New Zealand at Hyderabad in 1984-84.

Wajahatullah Wasti 133 and 122 against Sri Lanka at Lahore in 1998-99.

Yasir Hameed 170 and 105 against Bangladesh at Karachi in 2003-04.

Inzamam, 35, also entered the top ten list of batsmen who have scored the most centuries in Tests joining Matthew Hayden (Australia), Greg Chappell (Australia) and Vivian Richards (West Indies) at the ninth position in the all-time scorers of centuries.
