Suspended Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi's woes could increase after the Board of Control for Cricket in India unearthed more instances of corruption in the Twenty20 mega event.
According to sources, two major scandals have erupted with regard to hospitality tickets and installation of security scanners for the third edition of the IPL, held in April.
The hospitality tickets, priced at Rs 80,000 for the semi-finals and 100,000 for the final, were supposed to generate Rs 76 crore, but no record of the same appears in the books of accounts.
The scandal involving the installation of the security scanners is also quite interesting.
Delhi-based Vision Impact gave the BCCI an invoice of Rs 1.2 crore for the installation of the scanners for the IPL matches, but inexpicably they were paid 5.5 crore for the same, the source revealed.
When the BCCI went to investigate at the Delhi address of the said company, to find out why they were paid more than they quoted, they discovered that there was no such company at that location; instead, they found a lodging hotel called as Gupta Rest House.
These two scams are bound to generate more heat on Modi, who is already under investigation for financial irregularities in the Twenty20 league and suspended after IPL-3.
The BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held in Mumbai on Wednesday, will elect a new president, who would take over the reins from September 2011.
