Sardar Patel stadium to host ICL ties

Ahmedabad's Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura, a regular venue of cricket ties till they were shifted to the Motera Stadium on the outskirts, is all set to host Indian Cricket League matches in its first event of the new season commencing on October 10.

The development follows the signing of an agreement on Wednesday between the Essel Group promoted rebel league and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation which owns the stadium.

Under the terms of the agreement, ICL would spend Rs ten crore in upgrading the stadium and the refurbishment would include Rs 3-4 crore worth floodlights, apart from the improvement of the pitch, outfield, dressing rooms, stands and common areas.

Speaking on the issue ICL Executive Board Chairman and former India captain Kapil Dev recalled his fond memories with the textile city, saying it was in Ahmedabad that he surpassed Sir Richard Hadlee's world record for most Test wickets.

In the forthcoming season, during which matches are to beheld at four different grounds around the country, Ahmedabad Rockets would represent the state of Gujarat, the release said.

A total of 34 matches with a best of 3 finals will be played atĀ four grounds across the country.
